Paula McInerney of McLellan Jewellers and Boutique has been in the Village since 1986 and she has been a volunteer serving on committees and as a BIA board member ever since! Paula has served as the BIA Chair for the past seven years and we are delighted that she is willing to continue as our BIA Chair for another term of four yeras. Paula is not only a merchant in the Village, she also lives here! Paula is compassionate, dedicated and full of enthusiasm! Well versed of the needs and concerns of the community, she's the right person for the job!
Eva is a licensed optician. In September 1998, she setup her business in Bloor West Village. She carries high-end name brand eyeglasses. Eve joined the BIA Board of Management in 2001. Currently she is the Vice Chair of the BIA. Eva is of Polish descent, she brings with her, the European point of view on matters such as promotions and the way of life. Her contribution to the Board has been interesting, refreshing and helpful!
Alex Ling of Ling's Importers is the longest serving BIA board member in the whole world (40 years), and 24 years as BIA Chair! Alex also is the founder of the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) - 19 years as President! There are now 71 BIAs in the City of Toronto and counting. Alex is well respected by all and is a great ambassador for the BIA movement!
Dr. George Y. Mousa began his practice in Bloor West Village in 1984 and joined the BIA Board of Management in 1990. Dr. Mousa has been quite active on the Board - he served on various committees borth organizational and promotional. Currently, Dr. Mousa is the Secretary of our BIA Board and he has held this position for the past 15 years!
Celina arrived in Bloor West Village in 2004 and opened VILLA Restaurant along with her husband. Meeting many of the neighours and merchants prompted her to get more involved with the community in hopes of keeping Bloor West Village a destination area for those who are interested in shopping, dining and living in a great neighbourhood
Rachael is a long term Swansea resident, and property and business owner. She and her family have developed several local residential and commercial properties, including two restaurants, and currently own Max's Market in Bloor West Village. She is a member of the Bloor West Village BIA. Rachael is committed to this integrated thriving neighbourhood, the sense of community in its shops and offices, homes, public buildings and parks.
She received a Bachelor of Architecture from Carleton University in 1980. Her work as an Architect in private and corporate practice, and as a project owner, has included residential, commercial, industrial & signage design, and commercial project and contract management.
Dimitra has worked in Bloor West Village for the past four years at TD Canada Trust. A former financial advisor at the branch, she is now working as the branch manager. As one of the newest of the board Dimitra looks forward to working closely with the other members to continuously make Bloor West Village a growing and vibrant community.
Wes is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, an investment company in the village for the past 7 years. Recently, he has been attending various BIA functions, showing curiosity and interests in the workings of our BIA. We invited Wes to join the BIA Board of Management because he is a local resident and most of our business people in Bloor West Village do not live in the area. As a resident, he will be able to give us a residential perspective on the Board - which is very important to us.
Jurij R Klufas brings 20 years of skill in the hospitality industry and another 20 years in television to the Bloor West Village BIA Board. Except for a few years at high school and university in Europe Jurij grew up and was raised with most community and work experience in the High Park Bloor West Village area. Jurij is the founder and current Chair of the Bloor West Village Toronto Ukrainian Festival celebrating it's 15 anniversary this past September 2011.
Having been elected in October 2010, Sarah Doucette is your Councillor for Ward 13 and a new member of the BIA Board of Management. Sarah and her staff work as a the board's connection with city staff and departments. She is also a dedicated member on the city's Economic Development and Culture Committee, Board of Health, Library Board, Toronto Atmospheric Fund and Heritage Committee. Sarah has lived in Swansea for the past fiftenn years and has been active in the ward. Come out to join the Bloor West Village Resident Association and Councillor Sarah Doucette on Saturday April 21st at 10am for Toronto Community Clean-Up Day. Give an hour of your time! Bring your kids, neighbours and friends! We can make a difference in our community. Meet us at Kennedy Margdon Parkette behind the Runnymede Library. We will provide you with bags, gloves and a map of the areas to be cleaned up. Refreshments will be served courtesy of Starbucks. See you there!
