Community Profile: Meet Tristan Lockie, New Owner of The Sofa Bed Store
For over 12 years, The Sofa Bed Store has helped Canadians find furniture that looks beautiful, sits comfortably, and performs as a proper bed. The business has called Bloor West Village home for the past three years, and this past June, new owner Tristan Lockie took the reins.
Tell us about The Sofa Bed Store. What do you offer, and what’s the story behind it?
The Sofa Bed Store is a Canadian-owned specialist retailer of premium sofa beds, recliners, and complementary home products. All of its sofa beds are made in Ukraine, with in-stock, quick-to-ship, and customisable models available, meaning a sofa bed or recliner can sometimes be assembled in your home the very same day. We work with customers across Canada and the United States, but our Bloor West Village showroom remains at the heart of the business, giving people the chance to see, sit, and lie on a piece before making a decision.
“I acquired the business in June 2026. I am on the journey to preserve what customers already value while preparing the business for its next chapter,” shares Tristan.
Keeping the Legacy and Shaping What’s Next
Marta, our Store Manager, has been the true face of the store in Bloor West Village, known for her eye for detail and her care for every customer who walks in. I want to build from that foundation. That means retaining what’s made the store successful: knowledgeable and personal service, high-quality products that stand the test of time, white glove delivery and assembly, and the store’s presence in BWV. Changes will be gradual and practical, from a refreshed website and socials to stronger delivery and customer-service systems.

Any new products or signature brands that customers should look out for?
We specialize exclusively in Innovation Living sofa beds, designed in Denmark and manufactured in Ukraine, and in numerous shapes, sizes, and fabrics to deal with pets, kids, allergies, and other day-to-day needs. We also carry a curated selection of Loloi rugs and home products. We are expanding our presence of Conform’s Swedish-designed, handmade TimeOut recliners, available in dozens of fabrics, leathers and even sheepskin. Everything we sell is sustainably sourced and follows strict ethical standards.
What inspired you to purchase this store, specifically in Bloor West Village?
While I’m originally from the UK, I have lived in Toronto since 2009 and in BWV since 2015. Business ownership had been the dream for a very long time, so I set about turning that into reality while searching for the right business to buy. I looked at my original acquisition goals and seemingly stumbled across The Sofa Bed Store. The connection was immediate. The former business owners and I clicked, people like Marta impressed, and the due diligence made sense, so we made it happen. And the business is in BWV, which was a bonus!
“My wife, daughter, and I live and shop in the neighbourhood. It’s the best neighbourhood in the city!” says Tristan.
What’s your vision for supporting the community?
We are a destination. People come from all over the GTA and farther to sit, feel, lie and experience our products. When they’re here, I love recommending them other great finds in the area like ZAZA Espresso Bar & Gelato or Momo Ghar Tibetan Restaurant so they get to experience more of what we offer. Ultimately, I want The Sofa Bed Store to be a dependable and active member of this business community.
Have you found any favourite local spots yet?
This neighbourhood is our home so there are several spots we love, but I have to call out my friend Doug at Cecil Ward Menswear who always has a great selection of men’s clothes, and Eddy and Ellie at Snappers Fish Market. They are true masters of their field and always helpful, always friendly.
