Community Profile: Meet Roxanne, The Healing Source Pharmacy
As we celebrate 55 years, we’re spotlighting legacy businesses and longtime leaders who have helped shape Bloor West Village. Today, we honour a healthcare pioneer—one of our founding family business owners—whose vision has helped build both the heart and health (literally) of the Village.
A Family Legacy Rooted in Healthcare:
Roxanne (center of above photo, wearing dark green) and her husband Andrew’s journey in healthcare began long before they opened The Healing Source Integrative Pharmacy. The pharmacy’s roots trace back to 1963, when her in-laws, Zenia and Omelan Chabursky established the original West End Medical Pharmacy, the very first pharmacy in Bloor West Village. Roxanne and Andrew expanded this pharmacy and helped develop a medical building with community family physicians, an XRay and Lab, Physiotherapy Clinic and many other healthcare practitioners. The support from the local community allowed the family to grow their practice and business for over 60 years!
From One Business to Two:
Roxanne and Andrew didn’t stop at just one successful business—they built two! They merged West End Medical Pharmacy with Best Drug Mart and created The Healing Source Pharmacy (THS) in 2014, and Tender Love Carrots (TLC) in 2017. The new pharmacy and smoothie/coffee bar was now a true multigenerational family establishment, with 3 generations of Chabursky’s working alongside their amazing pharmacy team “who truly became part of their family”. Many have worked at The Healing Source Pharmacy for over 10, 20 and even 50 years.
A Holistic Approach to Wellness:
More than just a pharmacy, The Healing Source is a wellness hub. The goal for every customer and patient is to provide the resources for every person on their personal healing journey. This requires an integrative Team approach. Roxanne and Andrew have built a diverse, multilingual team of 7–8 pharmacists, technicians and nutritionists (most with European medical backgrounds) within the pharmacy. The Healing Source Pharmacy is a full service pharmacy providing prescriptions, consultations for minor ailments, vaccines, medication reviews, and free delivery to accommodate those who moved out of Bloor West Village and those unable to come to the store. The pharmacy also specializes in services, products and consultations in home healthcare support, mobility aids, natural supplements, remedies and hygiene products, energy healing, and custom compliance packaging — all tailored to meet the individual needs of their clients.
Healthy and Guilt-Free Drinks at TLC:
Over at the (Tender Love and Carrots) smoothie/juice/ coffee bar, the Team brings health and flavour together in creative ways. Customer favourites include Berry and the Beet, Tropical Creamsicle, and Leafy Green smoothies. Their latest innovation, the Diabetic Diet Delight (DDD), is just one example of how they are turning challenges into nourishing solutions. Gluten-free snacks and kid-friendly choices make TLC a welcoming stop for families too. The Team is a big believer in preventative practices “What you put into and on your body is key to long-lasting health and a strong immune system”.
Fun Fact: Roxanne’s mother-in-law, Zenia Chabursky, was the famous “sample lady” of the Village and worked full-time at the Pharmacy until she retired at age 85!
Through every transition and new venture, one thing has remained constant: Roxanne and Andrew’s decision to stay in Bloor West Village. “The people are wonderful, everything is walkable, and people always come back to their roots,” she says. She shows us that when you love your community and dedicate yourself to their well-being, every issue becomes an opportunity to help your neighbors even more!
